NEA CHORA

A beautiful beach a stone's throw away from Chania city.

Nea Chora beach is the closest beach to Chania city center, in a distance of about 1 km to the west. Understandably, it is one of the favorite beaches of the locals, as you can easily access it by simply walking there.
The name “Nea Chora” of the neighborhood, meaning “new town”, comes from the distant past, as it was the first part of the city to be built outside the old Venetian walls

The beach has shallow water and is suitable for children. The characteristic rocks located 200 m from the coast protect it from the occasional summer winds. The beach also has infrastructure for disabled persons.

Nea Chora beach is well organized, and in an urban spot that has everything you may need. The beach is known for its great fish taverns by the sea, where you can enjoy fresh fish. Every summer, during the first ten days of September, the Municipality of Chania organizes the Sardine Festival on the beach of Nea Chora, which attracts thousands of visitors.
