Agia Marina beach is one of the most known beaches in Crete. It is in a distance of 9 km west of Chania city. The beach is about 2,5 km long, and among the most popular beaches in Crete. It is ideal for socializing, as on and around the beach there is a plethora of beach bars, taverns and restaurants.
Agia Marina is one of the most organized beaches in Chania region, with sunbeds, parasols, a big variety of water sports, lifeguard services and any kind of tourist facility you can think of. The beach is ideal for families with children, as it has shallow, warm water.
Opposite the beach of Agia Marina stands the islet of Agioi Theodoroi, or Thodorou, with its characteristic oblong shape. The islet creates a magnificent landscape in the area, and has a long history, as in the past a big Venetian fortress had been built on it, to guard the surrounding area from the pirates. Today, Agioi Theodoroi is home to a population of the protected wild goats of Crete, the famous Kri-Kri.
